A Laborer must be familiar with all aspects of the construction site. They must be able to perform a variety of manual tasks using a number of types of tools & machinery in all kinds of weather in a safe manner.
Basic Requirements
- Tenth Grade Education.
- Not less than 18 years of age. Proof of age will be required.
- Physically able to perform the work of the trade.
- Perform the tasks of the trade in a safe manner and comprehend the instructions (both written and oral) taught in English only.
- Have a valid Drivers License.
- $20.00 administrative fee (no personal checks).
- Illegal substance and alcohol testing shall be required.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
How to Apply
- Copy of Birth Certificate or document showing proof of age and valid drivers license.
- Copy of High School transcript showing completion of tenth grade or GED.
- References (Optional) Two favorable references from signatory contractors, Laborer Local Business Mangers of former employers.
- A written aptitude test will be required of all applicants.
- A non-refundable administrative fee of $20.00 (no personal checks) must accompany the application, at the time of making.
Abilities
- Able to work at heights and lift heavy weights.
- Work in all types of weather.
Length of Apprenticeship
- The term of Apprenticeship shall be approximately two(2) years and 2000 hours of on the job diversified work and training, excluding time spent in related instruction.
Program Wage Progression and Benefit Schedule
- 1 year, st first 6 months - 60% of the journeyman's rate first 500 hours (minimum)including full benefits
- 1st year, second 6 months - 70% of the journeyman's rate
- 500 hours (minimum) including full benefits
- (Cumulative 1000 hours) + 80 hours classroom
- 2nd year, first 6 months - 80% of the journeyman's rate
- 500 hours (minimum) including full benefits
- (Cumulative 1500 hours) + 80 hours classroom
- 2nd year, second 6 months - 90% of the journeyman's rate
- 500 hours (minimum) including full benefits
- (cumulative 2000 hours) + 80 hours classroom
- 3rd year, after completing - 100% of the journeyman's rate
- a minimum of 2000 hours OJT including full benefits
- and 320 hours classroom.
- Journeyman's pay rate is $23.35 per hour (1999)
