Hire the Future (Employers)

Why should an employer hire young adults? Remember your first job experience? Someone gave you a chance. Now, you have a great opportunity to give another young person a summer job or part-time work during the school year and add an energetic, motivated young person to your workforce.

How it works:
  • If the young person is still in school, they are selected for the program based on their academic performance and attendance records, and the recommendations of school principals and counselors. Assist with job search and placement
  • Individuals are screened in interviews with HTF counselors, then referred to positions offered by employers in their town or area.
  • Each employer decides which person to hire, the length of employment and whether to pay more than minimum wage.

Steps for Employers

If you interested in hiring the future, follow the steps below:
  1. Print, complete and mail the Employer Response Form to IDES/Illinois Hire the Future Program or;
  2. For youth who are still enrolled in high school, have the student's guidance counselor complete the Reference Form.
  3. Use the IDES Office Locator to bring the completed forms to the office nearest you.
  4. Participating youth will create an Illinois JobLink (IJL) profile in order to receive Hire the Future career program services
