Pre-Registration and Illinoisjoblink.com Key to Hiring Success

CHICAGO – Twenty-four on-the-spot job offers were made at this week’s Veteran hiring event in Southern Illinois managed by the Illinois Department of Employment Security and sponsored by Congressman Bill Enyart and Shawnee Community College. The success illustrates how the state’s hiring portal, Illinoisjoblink.com, links employers with qualified workers to grow their businesses and our economy.

IDES’ modernized pre-registration and outreach efforts were key to the event’s success. IDES leveraged its Illinoisjoblink.com help-wanted hiring website to pre-match worker resumes with employer openings. IDES then worked with employers to identify Veterans and others to interview at the event. Congressman Enyart reported 200 individuals looking for work and 50 employers attended Wednesday’s hiring fair at the college in Ullin, Illinois.

“We know three things about our economy. We know that it is improving. We know that the improvement has yet to reach every doorstep. And we know there is more to be done,” IDES Director Jay Rowell said. “This week, the economic improvement just touched 24 more doorsteps.”

IDES is charged with delivering employment services to Veterans and last year helped 12,400 Veterans find work. In 2013, American Legion honored IDES as the workforce agency that provided the best Veteran employment services of any state in our country.

Veterans are sought-after employees for their service training, skills and experiences, which include respecting authority, embracing responsibility and operating in a team environment. Veterans also have advanced training in fields ranging from technology and manufacturing to construction and logistics.

A state income tax credit up to $5,000 is available for each qualified Veteran who is hired. Employers also might qualify for a federal tax credit of up to $9,600 through the Work Opportunity Tax Credit.

More than 150,000 help-wanted ads are on Illinoisjoblink.com. Keyword matching technology increases the likelihood of a successful new hire and compares favorably to private efforts that cost hundreds of dollars for a single advertisement. No-cost HR recruitment services also are at (877) 342-7533.
