More Illinoisans Leave Labor Force - Illinois Job Growth Still Lags Nation; Unemployment rate declines to 6.2%

​7/21/16 - The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) announced today that the unemployment rate in June decreased 0.2 percentage points to 6.2 percent and nonfarm payrolls decreased by -2,200 jobs, based on preliminary data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and IDES. The decrease in Illinois’ unemployment rate is largely due to a decline in the labor force. Job growth is still below the national average, with Illinois -51,500 jobs short of its peak employment level reached in September 2000.​  

State Reminding Jobseekers to Register for Employment Service, Provide Resume for New Unemployment Insurance Claims Filed on or after July 17

​7/12/16 -  The Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) is reminding jobseekers who file claims for unemployment insurance (UI) benefits on or after July 17, 2016, to register for employment service and upload at least one resume to – before they can receive an unemployment payment (unless they are exempt from the requirement). Individuals who are currently receiving benefits are not required to register again. IDES provides temporary financial assistance to individuals who have lost their job through no fault of their own and are seeking new employment.

IDES Director Jeff Mays Discusses Expanded Enforcement of Employment Service Registration Requirement - effective on claims filed on or after July 17

​6/30/16 - For new unemployment claims filed on or after July 17, 2016, a claimant must register with the Employment Service, by logging on to If subject to the registration requirement, UI benefits will not be paid until this registration is complete.
