Veteran Hiring Event Nets 46 On-the-Spot Job Offers

​8/22/2014 - Forty-six on-the-spot job offers were made at this month’s Hiring Our Heroes event in Peoria that was sponsored by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and managed by IDES. The success illustrates how the state’s hiring portal,, links employers with qualified workers to grow their businesses and our economy.

Unemployment Falls in Every Metro for Fourth Consecutive Month

8/21/2014 - July unemployment rates fell in every Illinois metro area for the fourth consecutive month and most are at six year lows, according to preliminary data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) and IDES. Rates also fell in all 102 counties for the second consecutive month. Not seasonally adjusted data compares July 2014 with July 2013.

July Unemployment Falls to 6.8 Percent

​8/14/14 - The Illinois unemployment rate fell in July for the fifth consecutive month to reach 6.8 percent while employers created 11,200 private-sector jobs, according to preliminary data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and IDES. The data is seasonally adjusted.


July 2014 - The Department of Employment Security works with local Workforce Investment Act (WIA) partners to return the unemployed to work.

IDES’ role to match the current skills of the unemployed with the needs of employers was established in the 1933 Wagner-Peyser Act.

The 1998 WIA augments Wagner-Peyser. If the unemployed do not have the skills needed by local employers, WIAs coordinate job training to meet those needs.
